The soft glow of the table lamp cast a warm light on the living room. James leaned back in his comfortable armchair, a glass of whiskey in his hand, the ice clinking softly as he took a sip. The gentle crackling of the fire in the hearth filled the room with a sense of security. It was the perfect end to a long week.

He thought of his neighbor, Sarah, a librarian who always appeared to be on a budget. Her clothes were practical and unassuming, her car an ancient Honda. She frequently offered to help with little things, always cheerful and down-to-earth. She seemed like a woman who appreciated the simple things in life.

The next morning, however, he spotted a moving van parked in front of Sarah’s house. Men in uniforms were carefully packing up designer furniture, artwork, and boxes marked with labels like "Chanel" and "Tiffany." James sat frozen in his chair, the whiskey suddenly tasting bitter on his tongue.
